Berkeley community focuses local Katrina aid effort

On Sunday September 25, 2005, there was an exceptional fundraising dinner and hugekly successful auction to support the Hurricane Katrina (and recently Hurricane Rita) survivors at Hs. Lordships Restaurant in Berkeley, California. This event was hosted by the Mayor of Berkeley, Tom Bates, UC Chancellor Robert Birgeneau, and Persian Center. This event was dedicated to all the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

As the famous Iranian Poet Sa’adi eloquently said so many years ago:

The children of Adam are limbs of each other,
Having been created of one essence.
When the calamity of time afflicts one limb,
The other limbs cannot remain at rest.
If thou hast no sympathy for the troubles of others,
Thou art unworthy to be called by the name of a man.

The community rallied to show its compassion by attending this event and donating to one of the following organizations:

  1. Relief International
  2. American Red Cross
  3. Berkeley Rotary

Donations were taken at the door and also by participating Auction item donors.
